E. McKnight Kauffer's Poe illustrations
E. McKnight Kauffer (1890–1954) illustrated a two-volume Poe set for Knopf in 1946. These scans come from a 1951 reprint, in a slipcase which refers to the set as "The Borzoi Poe." (The spines refer to the set as The Complete Poems and Stories of Edgar Allan Poe, edited by Quinn and O'Neill.) The first image above is also printed on the slipcase. Because I couldn't open the book far enough, I had to crop the borders on some of the images (note the difference between the borders on the second and third images).

American-born designer E. McKnight Kauffer lived and worked in the UK most of his life. Check out Mark Haworth-Booth's excellent E. McKnight Kauffer: A Designer and His Public.

This felt like a steal at $20, even though the slipcase is kind of beat-up.
