Bohumil Stepan's illustrations for Gulliverovy Cesty (Gulliver's Travels),
I'm not sure who was responsible for this binding illustration
half of the title-page spread
surely Haeckel in the background
"Max Ernst and Saul Steinberg meet Jonathan Swift in Prague."
I haven't found much info on Bohumil Stepan (1913–85), though based on his style I'll guess that he and Adolf Hoffmeister (1902–73) were from the same circle of artists. I hope to hunt-and-gather more of his books soon.
I actually started buying these books (Gulliver is from my collection) instead of just "window shopping." God help me.
